CEE Bankwatch Network campaigns to prevent environmentally and socially harmful impacts of international development finance, and to promote alternative solutions and public participation. It unites 17 member groups in 14 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. Our headquarters are located in Prague, Czech Republic, but our staff is based in offices across the region. We work with partner organisations ranging from Africa to Central Asia, monitoring public finance projects and promoting environmentally, socially and economically sustainable alternatives. Communications officer
📍 Location: Any Bankwatch country in central and eastern Europe

CEE Bankwatch Network is looking for a new communications officer to support its work in central and eastern Europe and beyond. This position is a fixed-term as a cover for maternity leave.
The communications officer will work across our network of 17 members in 14 countries. You will join a dynamic, international team based in Prague, Warsaw, Belgrade and Zagreb, supporting outreach efforts and strengthening communications capacity across the network.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working remotely and confident in using digital tools to promote campaigns and amplify impact.
🔑 Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate international media responses and pitch stories about Bankwatch work to media
- Identify stories from member groups and partners for developing op-eds, blogs and multimedia content
- Develop creative ways to disseminate and promote Bankwatch products and publications through social media and online media outlets
- Provide Bankwatch campaigners with communications support across the network’s strategic areas and campaigns
- Participate in the communications team’s strategic planning, setting and achieving communications priorities, brainstorming and knowledge-sharing
✅ What we’re looking for
- Excellent writing and editing skills and command of English
- A minimum of two years of experience in the field of communications/journalism/media
- Experience coordinating communications activities for advocacy or campaigning purposes
- Proven experience with at least two of the following aspects of communications work: messaging and strategic communications; journalist relations and pitching media stories; knowledge of digital communications, including managing social media channels and/or WordPress sites; graphic design and data visualisation skills; video creation and editing or working with external video editors; developing blog posts, op-eds and multimedia content; preparing and disseminating publications
- Knowledge of or familiarity with energy and environmental politics, climate financing, and the region of central and eastern Europe is an asset
- Experience working remotely in decentralized environments; international experience and experience with non-governmental organizations is a plus
