Lékaři bez hranic (Médecins Sans Frontières-MSF) is an independent, international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, exclusion from healthcare and natural disasters.
Our teams provide medical care for millions of patients every year in many different types of projects in more than 70 countries around the world. In 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The main goals of the MSF Czech office include recruitment of new employees for missions abroad, fundraising and informing the public about our work.

We are looking for a new colleague to join our team at the MSF Czech to lead the Communications department. As Head of Communications, you will set and lead the MSF CZ overall communications and advocacy strategy, ensuring high-quality, consistent and impactful messaging aligned with MSF values, brand and long-term objectives. You will also lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, manage reputational risks, and drive innovation in the area of public communications.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Strategic Direction & Planning
- Define, lead, and continuously evaluate MSF’s communications and advocacy strategies in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia. Make sure they are aligned with long-term objectives, global MSF positioning and our principle of témoignage.
- Actively contribute a communications perspective to the strategic decision-making of MSF CZ as a member of the MSF CZ Management Team.
- Oversee departmental budget management and resource planning within Board-approved frameworks.
Execution & Coordination
- Ensure coherent, high-quality execution of all communications activities across media relations, digital channels, social media, campaigns, events, publications, and public engagement.
- Lead, support, and develop the Communications Department, including the Missing Maps team, fostering accountability, creativity, and professional growth.
- Directly manage a multidisciplinary team of approximately 10 professionals.
Content Strategy & Editorial Quality
- Provide strategic leadership in storytelling and content development, ensuring editorial excellence, relevance, and impact.
- Safeguard the consistent application of MSF principles, values, and brand identity across all communications outputs.
Cross-functional Integration
- Work closely with Fundraising, HR, and other departments to ensure integrated, consistent, and effective public messaging.
- Collaborate with the Head of Fundraising on unified campaign narratives and donor communications.
- Collaborate and coordinate with MSF SITS (Shared IT Services) in relevant areas concerning external communications.
Risk & Reputation Management
- Lead and coordinate public communications during emergencies, crises, or sensitive situations that may affect MSF’s reputation in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and principled responses in line with MSF’s values and international guidance.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Maintain and further develop strong relationships with media, journalists, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent MSF CZ in internal, regional, and international communications forums as required.
Other Responsibilities
- Lead and support additional communications priorities of MSF CZ, particularly related to the new brand strategy, digitalisation, and automation.
- Actively track emerging trends in AI and digital communication, and translate them into practical, ethical uses that increase the effectiveness, reach, and efficiency of MSF’s communications while safeguarding the organization‘s values, principles and data.
WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
- University degree in Communications, International Relations, Political Science, or related fields.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience, ideally within the humanitarian, NGO, or mission-driven sector, with demonstrated expertise in strategic and crisis communications.
- Strong strategic and conceptual thinking, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver both long-term strategies and short-term initiatives.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in Czech and English (written and verbal).
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional networks nationally (media, journalists, NGOs) and internationally (MSF offices, partners, field projects).
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and MSF’s identity and positioning.
- Demonstrated commitment to collaborative leadership, team development, and people management.
- High level of flexibility, resilience, and availability in a dynamic and crisis-driven environment.
- Willingness to undertake short-term field visits or missions is an asset.
- Fluency in Czech and English (C1/C2); knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is an asset
- User knowledge of MS Office (we work on the MS 365 platform)
- Legal entitlement to work in the Czechia (residency, valid work visa etc.)

- Full-time employment Contract for one year with possibility of extension
- Fair monthly gross remuneration from CZK 61.800,- based on experience, in accordance with the MSF's internal remuneration policy
