Pominu-li podpůrná oddělení jako je právní, provoz, ekonomové apod., je CI poměrně malá instituce. Naproti tomu je však záběr velmi široký. Samo CI je strůjce různých aktivit, musí vykonávat to, co mu zadá zřizovatel (Ministerstvo průmyslu a obchodu) a realizuje řadu projektů.
